My mom-in-law came up to walk 10 miles with us.  We were lucky that it wasn’t raining when we started.  10 miles is a lot of ground to cover.  Our trek took us from the Brooklyn neighborhood to Oaks Bottom to the Springwater Corridor to Ladd’s Addition to Belmont to Laurelhurst Park to Hawthorne to Clinton and then back home to Brooklyn.  We had two small bouts of freezing hard rain (with a bit of hail mixed in), but for the most part it was a beautiful day.  It was so nice to walk with my mom-in-law.  Good conversation made the 3.5 hour walk seem much shorter.  My mom-in-law is starting to think about walking a full marathon.  Eek!  We are talking about maybe training for one next year.  On a very happy note, this is the first time I’ve walked in months without any major pain.  It’s amazing how much more enjoyable walking is when you are pain free.  Yes, my legs were sore and I was tired from the 10 miles, but it’s a huge difference from being in sharp, blinding pain.  For the first time, I’m starting to look forward to half marathon.
