Photo Friday – Candid

Photo Friday – Candid

Posted on Jul 11, 2005

Candid was a hard theme.  My husband has challenged me not to use anything thing that I’ve taken in the past for Photo Friday.  This will force me to really get out there and work on taking pictures.  Candid, at least to me, needs to involve life because how can a still life be candid.  So I set about trying to take pictures of my cats.  Atty started attacking the camera handle (that’s the grey...

Wire Necklace

Wire Necklace

Posted on Jul 7, 2005

This is a necklace that I made out of steel wire.  This piece is basically a sampler of different types of wire beads.  Steel is so much cheaper than silver, so it’s a good material for trying out new things.  I used so much wire in this piece, I think it would be too expensive for me to reproduce in silver. I never fail to get compliments on this piece.  It’s pretty big and showy.  I always wear...

Photo Friday – Used

Photo Friday – Used

So, I have to know my limitations.  I just don’t have it in me to do Illustration Friday.  It’s too hard for me to do on a regular basis.   I’ve decided to take my husband’s advice and try Photo Friday instead.  I’m much more comfortable with my camera.  I hate it when he’s right! So this week the challenge is ‘Used’.  I like the idea of the barnacles...

i-pod Sock

i-pod Sock

Posted on Jul 5, 2005

My husband sent me this link to make an i-pod sock.  Apparently they are all the rage, although I had not heard of them before.  I made this for him this weekend while we were at the beach visiting my mom.  It’s always nice to have something to do with my hands while chatting.  I liked how this turned out.  The pattern was easy to follow.  I added the stripes for flare.  Since I just got my...

Paint Pots

Paint Pots

Posted on Jun 30, 2005

For Christmas this year, I got my work friends a gift certificate to Paint Pots.  I figured that it would a fun activity for us to all do and we could spend quality time together.  I prefer gifts like this to just going out and buying something. Of course we finally got around to going about a month or so ago.  I opted to do a sushi plate because I figured I could put candles on it or sushi.  I’ve done paint...

Illustration Friday

Illustration Friday is a group of people that draw something to a different theme each week.  I’ve joined the group in hopes of broadening my drawing ability.  This week’s theme is Hero.  The only thing I could think of besides the song "I’m holding out for a Hero" from Footloose was a catapiller that turns into a butterfly.  He’s a real life super hero with an amazing super...

Silver Vs. Metal Clay

Silver Vs. Metal Clay

Posted on Jun 28, 2005

I got an offer in the mail for a free trial of this magazine.  Since free is my favorite word, I thought I would try it out.  The magazine turned out to be very small and not filled with much that I would actually want to do.  The thing that surprised me the most was that almost all the articles were on metal clay.  Metal Clay is silver in a mold-able clay.  Once you fire your piece in the kiln, the clay burns...

The Farm

Yesterday, my husband and I went to visit my mother-in-law.  She married a farmer last year.  This has worked out great for us because we are always sent home with fresh produce.  We were celebrating my husband’s Birthday.  First we got a tour of the farm.  We’ve never seen all of the land.  The fields were filled with corn, squash, celery, green beans.  Of course, they are all just baby...

Friday Afternoon

Posted on Jun 24, 2005

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m just watching the clock slowly tick it’s way to 6:00pm.  Outside my window, the sun is shining and it’s beautiful!  That made me think of this day in Washington.  The sky was clear and it was just warm enough so that the sun felt good on your face, but it wasn’t hot.  Next weekend I will be visiting my mom on the Oregon Coast.  It’s been awhile...

Joseph Cornell

Joseph Cornell

Posted on Jun 23, 2005

I discovered Joseph Cornell quite by accident.  I was a teenager and looking through art books at Powell’s.  Something I did quite a lot of at that age.  I found a book on Cornell and I was blown away.  His shadow boxes are extraordinary. I have always wanted to make shadow boxes.  I have spent years collecting odds and ends to put in the boxes I’m going to make.  For some reason, I...
