Zinnia Seed Wedding Favors

Zinnia Seed Wedding Favors

Posted on Mar 2, 2011

For my cousin's wedding, I made these Zinnia Seed wedding favors.  I used this Martha Stewart tutorial and it worked great!  I followed the directions exactly and had no trouble making these.   The only trouble was working with international rules and plants.  The original idea was to have tulip bulbs for favors.  This became quite the headache because I could easily get tulip bulbs in the states...

Toronto is an amazing city!  A huge city with 4 million people which makes Portland feel like a very small town.  While most of my time in Toronto was focused on wedding details, I did get the chance to see some beautiful parts of this magnificent City.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures of Toronto    ...

My Cousin’s Wedding

My cousin is married!  I'm so happy for him and his husband, Ivan.  I spent all of last week in Toronto helping them put it all together.  It was work, but it was also a whole lot of fun.  I'm so glad I was able to have this week to re-connect with Danny and to meet and get to know Ivan.   The top photo is my wedding present to them.  I bought it last spring at the Pottery Guild's show....

Christmas Present – Encaustic Art

The other big present I made this year were these encaustic wall plaques – I really need to think of a better name for these.  :)  My sis and I have been fiddling in encaustic work for the past couple of years.  While she is focusing more on pendants (check our her amazing stuff), I’m leaning more towards creating wall art. All of the plants came from my yard.  The stones are from the coast.  I’m using recycled...

As I first blogged about over on Handmade in Portland, my sis asked for reusable sandwich bags for Christmas.  You can read my post about the research I did to decide on the materials and the pattern I wanted to use.  I did use this tutorial by French Sleep Deprivation Study for my bags.  It’s a really great tutorial and I highly recommend it.  The only thing I really changed was adding a 5/8 inch seam allowance all the way...

Christmas Present – Dork Art

Posted on Jan 27, 2011

A few months before Christmas, I found a portafilter at Goodwill for a couple of bucks.  I instantly had a vision of what I could make Diana for Christmas.  She got a tattoo on her arm a year or so ago that she calls her Dork Badge.  It's the three most important tools she likes to have in her hand: a portafilter, pencil and a sewing needle.  After I bought the portafilter, the rest came together easily....

Paper Flower Assistant

I'm neck deep in making paper flowers at the moment.  I'm really not doing much else since my cousin's wedding is almost exactly a month from now.  Since he's in Toronto, I need to mail off paper flowers to him soon!  So for now, all other activities are put on hold, so I can focus on this project.   I have had a constant companion while I make flowers.  Trilly is always by my side....

Christmas Present to Myself

Christmas Present to Myself

I still can't reveal any Christmas presents that I made this year because I'm in the process of getting together with friends and exchanging presents, but I can show you what I bought myself!  I found this necklace at the huge Crafty Wonderland sale.     I was immediately drawn to it because I love inlaid wood, not to mention that the necklace is just gorgeous.  But it is even much cooler than...

I’ve decided that this year I’d like to focus on fitness.  I’ve signed up to walk a half marathon in May and will follow this training schedule. To help keep me motivated, I’ve decided to add photography to the mix.  I’ve started a photography blog called That Jolie Girl Walks.  Besides a place to keep myself accountable to keep training, it will also serve as a place holder for all the photographs...

2011 – A Brand New Year

Posted on Jan 1, 2011

Happy 2011! I'm so ready to start a brand new year.  A new year is a clean slate and that thought is refreshing and inspiring.  December is filled with holidays, gluttony and celebration.  It's overwhelming, exhausting and fun.  I'm ready for a new beginning of better habits in all areas of my life.  My blog is one such habit that I'm hoping to improve upon this year.  As you...
