My sis and I volunteered at the I Heart Art: Portland's Mixer Match a few weeks ago. Here we are checking in the artists, gallery owners and superstars. I had attended the first Mixer Match last year that was geared towards crafters and local shops. It was a great event and I loved seeing crafters get signed to stores that night.
I was excited to volunteer for the gallery mixer match because the first event was so much fun. The basic concept of this mixer match was that visual forty artists have two minutes to speed date their art to 17 galleries. The speed dating was held in the beautiful Design Within Reach showroom which created perfect intimate areas for theses matches to take place.
The event was put on and organized by volunteers. Issac Watson and Rebecca Kerr are co-chairs of I Heart Art: Portland and along with council members Jen Neitzel (pictured above) and Kirsten Moore, they created a wonderful, comfortable event.
I hope to volunteer for I Heart Art: Portland again soon. I loved seeing the amazing art people brought in and I also got to meet a few artists that I've admired for a very long time. If you aren't aware of this wonderful organization, become familiar. I Heart Art: Portland's ingenious program is doing a lot of good for Portland's vast community of makers. Because of it's success in providing events like this and also extremely cheap workshops, this program is sprouting up in communities all over the nation.
