Christmas Present – Embroidered Tie

Posted on Jan 3, 2008

Finally!  I finally get to share the Christmas presents that I made this year.   I plan on dragging this out as long as humanly possible because I’m pretty proud of all that I made.  Besides, isn’t the very nature of a blog to share yourself with the world?  Well, settle in and get comfortable it’s going to be a long ride.  :)

I embroidered the tie above for my cousin in Toronto.  I got the tie at Goodwill and I had originally planned on painting it, but decided that embroidery was a better way to go.  Each circle has a Morse Code message that I embroidered.  I really like the idea that words have power.   My intent is for my cousin to have good thoughts around him when he wears the tie.

I didn’t really have a plan of attack when I started this.  I had my message all written out in Morse Code and just started in.  I used French knots as the dots and a small stitch for the dashes.  The nice thing about the tie is that I sewed only the top layer of the tie, so from the back, you can’t see any threads.  It gave it a nice polished look.  I don’t know how often my cousin will wear this tie, but it was definitely fun to do.  I think I will try this again some day.

I put a less than subtle message on the back of the tie.   No translation needed here.
