Flowers in bloom

Flowers in bloom

Here are some pictures of flowers in my yard.  These first two are of from my budding lilac tree.  I love that you can still see the dew on the buds.  My camera is a Canon Powershot A630.  It’s amazing what great detail I can get with it’s built in macro lens. Rosemary Another cool feature my camera has is the ability to have one color shine through and the rest of the photograph be black and...

This weekend was sunny and warm.  I got a chance to get out in the yard and do some much needed weeding.  While weeding, I came across this little guy.  It took several attempts to get a good picture of him since he’s only about an inch long.  I cropped these two pictures so I could get much better detail of the...

This piece is 8 inches by 4 inches.  I made it many weeks ago, but it took 3 firings to get it to where I liked it.  It’s hard to tell, but there are frit balls in patterns all along the sides of the piece.  I think this will look nice hanging from a window. Spring is in the Air

I am ready for spring.  These pictures are from my friend’s yard.  It had snowed this morning, but by evening the sun was out and it was sort of warm.  I love seeing robins out and the flowers starting to bloom. I can’t wait for warmer weather and more sun.  Although living in Portland, I know the rainy season isn’t over yet. I love the rain.  It doesn’t bog me down, but a touch of sun...

Using the kiln

While dog sitting I got a chance to run my kiln.  Since the kiln lives at my partner’s house (my husband is deathly afraid of fire), I’ve never actually gone through the whole cycle of starting the kiln and washing the end pieces, etc.  I was a bit scared since it was my first time and I was alone in my friend’s house,  (I think my husband is starting to rub off on me a bit) but I conquered that fear...

Free Glass

Free Glass

Free is probably my favorite word.  I am a very frugal (OK, cheap) person.  My idea of a good time is going to Goodwill.  So when my kiln partner got an offer of free scrap glass, we were overjoyed.  My kiln partner owns The Funky Door Cafe (only the best coffee shop in all of Portland) and one of her regulars does glass full time.  He offered her glass that he had been keeping, but was too small for him to...
